Choosing a copy format
Embed, Linked, Markdown or Plain. Which feedback block format to use for your newsletter editor.
Updated
IssuePulse can give you the same links in four formats. The links are identical; only the way they’re packaged changes. You can switch at any time.
| Format | What you get | Use it when | Counts opens? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Embed | A styled HTML block with coloured buttons | Your editor accepts pasted HTML or rich content | Yes |
| Linked | Plain HTML links | You paste formatted text and want simple links | No |
| Markdown | [Label](url) links |
Your platform or static site is written in Markdown | No |
| Plain | Label and URL as text | You send plain-text emails, or nothing else works | No |
Which one should I pick?
Start with Embed. Many editors accept it directly: paste, and it arrives styled. It’s also the only format that counts opens, which lets you compare votes with how many people saw the block.
If the embed arrives broken or unstyled, try Linked. If you write in Markdown, use Markdown. If you send plain-text email, use Plain.
Why only Embed counts opens
The embed block includes a tiny invisible image. When an email client loads it, IssuePulse counts an open. Linked, Markdown and Plain are bare links with nothing to load, so they count votes but not opens. What matters is the block you paste: an Embed block counts opens whichever format its topic is set to. See What counts as an embed open?.
