A link says “This link isn’t valid”

What to check when a reader sees an invalid-link page after clicking a feedback link.

Updated

A reader sees “This link isn’t valid” when the link doesn’t match any topic. Check these in order:

  1. Was the link edited? Some editors change links when you paste. Copy the block again from the topic page and compare.
  2. Was the topic deleted? Links to a deleted topic stop working.
  3. Did the handle change before the first vote? Links contain your workspace handle. It can be edited until readers start using your links; if you changed it after copying a block, copy the block again. See Change your workspace handle.
  4. Did the slug change before the first vote? A slug can be edited until the topic’s first vote. If you edited it after copying the block, copy it again.

Links created before link labels became editable (ending in /loved, /useful and so on) still work and record votes against the right option.
