Topics & links
Use 3 or 5 links
When to use three feedback links instead of five, and what happens to votes when you switch.
Updated
Every topic has five links. You choose whether readers see all five or only the first three.
Five links give you more shape: you can tell “useful” apart from “loved it”, and “too long” apart from “not for me”.
Three links get more clicks: fewer choices make it easier to pick one.
Switching
You can switch at any time when editing the topic.
- Switching to 3 hides links 4 and 5. Their votes are kept.
- Switching back to 5 restores the same two links with their history.
- If a reader clicks link 4 or 5 in an old issue while the topic is set to 3, the vote still counts. Dropping it would be worse than recording it.
After switching, copy the block again so your next issue shows the right number of links.
